Awareness on Rape with Teachers

FOL in Lilongwe was privileged today to do an awareness campaign on Rape at a teachers conference at Emmanuel Teachers College. As we empower children in schools to report rape, we should encourage teachers to be advocates for the children... They are "second" parents after all... Some children feel safe at school because at home they are being abused. Some teachers of course are perpetrators which is sad. We had to had to remind them of their roles as teachers.

We used a cartoon video that was made for Fountain of Life awareness campaigns. It is very short but audiences are able to relate to the information because of the local stories and language. It carries a powerful message about reporting rape and teachers being the second best place to report to because children spend most of their time in school than home.

During the discussion, the teachers were very attentive, they shared their challenges, experiences and enthusiasm to fight rape and sexual assault. They promised to go back to their schools and communities and BREAK THE SILENCE.
